What's a tape player?

Updated: May 14, 2020

The fun of watching anyone under a certain age look at the ancient plastic and metal version of a music player is entertaining. It’s not a bad shot to grab with your iPhone as you witness the face of sheer confusion and a bit of contempt as this person of lesser years wonders how anyone brought this and a suitcase full of tapes with them to play music. Then tell them you had to spend half of your allowance on batteries, and their minds explode in front of you. This is what I imagine the Holy Spirit is doing when we keep using that broken tape player in our minds to tell us an OLD story of what we USED to be.

The Bible says, anyone in Christ is a New Creation!! 2nd Corinthians 5:17 says in the NLT This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! The message version says this: Because of this decision we don’t evaluate people by what they have or how they look. We looked at the Messiah that way once and got it all wrong, as you know. We certainly don’t look at him that way anymore. Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons! Look at it!

No one uses tape players anymore, and if they do, they’re listening to the same tapes, because there are no new cassette tapes being released. There hasn’t been for years. Paul Anka may still be performing, but his songs haven’t changed, get the point? That means if we listen to the old message, we HAVEN’T REALLY CHANGED! And thus we are NEGATING what Jesus did for us. He said… IT IS FINISHED… he didn’t say, except in Tony’s case, he’s never getting better.

But somehow we talk ourselves into listening to an obsolete machine that is playing an outdated message inside ourselves.

As a person of faith, You are NEW, so why are you listening to and OLD broken down tape player that plays nothing but conflict over and over? For goodness sakes get rid of it. Don’t believe it. Get a new source of information. We call those mp3’s. Or better yet, just stream it from the cloud. Get the information that is pertinent to the new paradigm of who you are now. Christianity says a lot of things that people tend to either love or hate, and the fact is, we’re all broken and sometimes screw up the message or it gets garbled from the origin.

Here’s the deal, Christ’s message never changes either, But we have to hear it in new ways and he wants to get our operating system updated every day. And if you become a Christian, you get unlimited downloads of BRAND NEW MESSAGES and MUSIC for life.

This is what Jesus says about you: I love you. I died for you. I’m here for you. You’re worth it. You’re more than enough. You’ve got this!

So stop pestering yourself with a broken mechanism that’s not telling you what the update says. Look up to the cloud, and get a new stream.
